    Slab Wallpieces
These pieces feature an outer frame impressed with a pattern derived from ancient Chinese
woodblock plates. The plates are pressed into the clay revealing a rich texture and a subtle
    suggestion of  history.

The inner portion of the tile is decorated with an incised drawing, consisting of various nature
motifs. The designs are incised into the clay when it is still wet . The piece is then bisque fired.
The glaze is then inlaid into the drawing with a very small brush. After the glaze is applied, the
outer frame is coated with a combination of metallic oxides.

The piece is then raku fired.  The raku firing process results in swirling metallic coloration in the
outer frame and  a brilliantly colored inner tile, with the rich patina of  crackled glaze.

The tile is mounted on wood. There is a cut-out in the backing which allows for easy hanging on
the wall of your choice. These pieces measure 13.5"x7.5" and the purchase price is $190. Below are a
few examples of the motifs available.

    Collaborative Wallpieces
This design was our first collaborative effort. We created these wallpieces combining our two,
    very different, firing processes.
The outer frame, made by Gerald, is Raku fired. The surface is coated with a combination of
various metallic oxides. When fired, they react with the flame, heat and smoke, creating a
lovely pattern of swirling color. Because the flames dictate the pattern, no two frames are alike.
The inner tile, made by Kelly, is multiple- fired. The design is incised into the clay when it is
still wet. After the tile is bisque fired, she inlays the glazes into the drawing with a very fine
    brush.
After firing, the two tiles are then mounted on a slab of wood which is ready for hanging.
These pieces are $350. They measure 11.5"x11.5". Many people purchase several pieces, related
by theme, to create a triptych.
